It’s All About Him!
At Crossroad, our message is “It’s All About Him!” This is a statement that we’re not overly concerned with organized religion or lists of “do’s” and “don’ts.” However, we are deeply concerned – and the Bible tells us God is deeply concerned – that people of every language, nationality and social status truly know their God.
The Bible is God’s love letter to humanity, and it is very clear; we were created to know God and to live our lives in relationship with him. Before he even created this world, God knew that we would rebel against him, and he still chose to create. It’s not because of anything special about us; it’s all about God’s amazing love and his desire to share that love with creatures who were made in his image.
From the very moment the first humans did rebel against God and his love for them, God has been unfolding his plan to bring us back. He revealed himself throughout the centuries to godly men from the nation of Israel, a special people he had chosen to know him and to make him known in the world. In the pages of scripture penned by these men, God’s amazing character is revealed. He is the ultimate standard for right and wrong, and that no evil can stand his holy presence, for his perfection is a consuming fire. Although we should all be grateful that God cares deeply about justice and can’t stand evil, it creates a God-sized conundrum for us; the problem is every single human stands on the wrong side of God’s law.
The original good news is that this God who created us in love made a way to balance absolute justice with amazing grace. Since we earned death for our rebellion and law-breaking and that penalty had to be paid, God sent his own son, Jesus the Messiah, to pay the price for us. Jesus, wholly God, became fully human as well; he was born as a human baby, lived a normal yet sinless life, and taught us all how to follow God. Even more importantly, Jesus died a brutal and unjust death in our place, taking the penalty for our sins. Three days later, he rose from the dead to prove he’d conquered death and secured life for all who would come to him.
Since he is fully human, Jesus was able to take the human penalty in our place. Because he is fully God, there’s no limit to the extent of this gift – anyone who is willing to turn away from rebellion and come to God can receive salvation from sin and death. Anyone.
What Can You Do?
So what must you do to know God? How can you start this amazing journey of transformation, allowing God to provide the direction your life has always needed? It’s as simple as receiving a gift. Admit you need a savior, that you stand on the wrong side of God’s law and you’ll never be able to solve this problem on your own. Believe that Jesus is God’s one and only way to deal with our sin and grant us peace with God. Confess that Jesus is your Lord, that you will follow him and allow him to make changes in your life.
This simple step changes everything for those who take it. The Bible describes those without God as spiritually dead, and those who come to Jesus as new creatures, alive and transformed. Accepting the gift of salvation through Jesus is just the first step toward a whole new way of life. If you’ve accepted God’s solution, his Spirit comes and lives within you, giving you the ability to choose to live right and to have a true relationship with God. And this is where those things normally associated with “organized religion” come into play. Reading the Bible, praying, going to church won’t get you on God’s good side if you’re still on the wrong side of his law, but once you’ve been saved they help you grow. Rightly used, these practices help us know God better and become more like him.
